Weekly Photo Challenge: Carefree
The weather was iffy – the pups and I were pretty sure it was going to rain, but decided before it did, we were going for a walk. Normally Friday is our day to explore new trails and parks, but the questionable weather made us lean toward known trails and quick access to the car if need be so we headed up to Gemini Springs again.
It wasn’t as spectacular a day as it was the first time we went. The weather was overcast and we took the opposite forks than the ones we took the first time around. One of the trails was quite less traveled and a great horned owl let us know we were in his territory and he didn’t like it.
The squirrels were in hospitality mode – several times when we were deciding which path to take a squirrel came out of nowhere, beckoned us a certain way, and accompanied us for a while.
It was unusual enough (especially with four dogs) the first time.
It happened again.
We got a quick look at a very large bunny down one of the less well-traveled trails but I couldn’t get my camera out quick enough to capture it.
It was a lovely morning, the rain held off, and I felt as carefree as this butterfly.
Go here for more carefree photos.
I just love those little creatures, only they go to bed early…

Lovely story. 🙂 I really like the idea of squirrels as guides.

I had to laugh. I always ask my guardian angel to walk with us and help us take the right paths. I guess I must not have been listening, so my angel asked St. Francis to send some squirrels to lead the way!

Thanks! Wasn’t sure how they’d turn out – the light kept changing – but we got lucky.

It was, despite the heat and threat of rain. We almost didn’t go – so glad we did!

It surprised me how different it was from the first time we went. Was thrilled I actually got photographs of the butterflies – I think they took pity on me. They were huge! There is also a dog park there. We went after the walk. I thought the dogs would play, but they just hung out except to bark at the big dogs on the other side. I guess I wore them out!

It was very different from the first time – found a host of trails we didn’t know existed. Saved one for next time – too overgrown to go through in flip flops. We stuck to the clear (more or less) trails. I prefer the sandy ones so I can read the tracks and know what to expect.

The cats (except one) prefer to be outside. They only come in to eat and sleep. And they are all (except one) bigger than the dogs.

Just took a photo of them hanging out together. I think they’re all too lazy to fight 🙂
