#AtoZChallenge – K is for Knitting
My mother was a wonderful seamstress. There was nothing she couldn’t make. But she had never tried knitting. When we lived in Maine, it seemed as though everyone knew how to knit. One of our neighbors made beautiful afghans. She offered to teach my mother. Unfortunately, right after yarn was purchased, my father was transferred so the knitting lessons never happened. Instead, our neighbor made the afghan she was going to teach my mother to make and sent it to her. It was beautiful, both sturdy and soft. Mom cherished it for years. It’s probably still on someone’s bed somewhere in the family.
Knitting is a great skill. My daughter knits. I get a scarf almost every Christmas. I bet that is a lovely afghan.

It really was. I wish I had a picture of it. I’m allergic to wool so I always had to have a sheet between me and it but every time I looked at it I thought of our neighbor and the love and time she put in on it.

I love to crochet, but knitting has always been beyond me; I lose stitches, gain stitches, drop stitches, and nothing every comes out as it should. Maybe I’ll give it another try some day. Thanks for the post.

I remember my late grandmother sitting in her rocking chair and knitting. It was one of her favourite hobbies. Good memories.
Thank you sharing your post and good luck with the rest of the challenge 🙂

Ha, knitting! I did the same thing today. I guess K is a tad limiting. Nice piece, Cynthia. My wife knits, but I guess I’m a stereotypical male who would injure myself with knitting needles.

I’m with Celia on this one. I can crotchet; but not knit. And I’ve made one blanket, am making another, and have plans for a third, for my children. I’m hoping these, too, will also be cherished possessions for years.
